Unpack GlowStich

I ordered the GlowStitch from Steph Piper (Australia) with a Kickstarter. I know Steph Piper (or Maker Queen) from the internet and socials. She is doing amazing work on maker projects in combination with LED’s. She had send me a kit already 2 years ago to try it out. But now I received the GlowStitch and I tried it out the last 2 days.

What is in it

The kit comes in a small box with 2 times 10 special LED GlowStitch LED’s, conductive tape, 2 types of battery holders. There is also a nice leaflet in in with explanation and ideas to make. On her website you can find more information how to use the LEDs.

The Making

I decided to make the bag what is in the leaflet. With a snap you close the bag and the Lights will go on, because then you close the electric circuit. I had fun making it, but had to start over, because i made the bag to small for what I was thinking to use it for. The lights when on fine. I didn’t even stitch the conductive tape but used conductive thread to attach the LEDs to the tape. I wanted the tape to be invisible.

Then I took an old glove and put the LEDs on the glove and figured out how to put the conductive tape so if you would push the tape the lights would go on. The was fun to do. It was just for fun to make.

Conclusion

It is a fun kit (58 dollar) and you quickly can make something and it is fun to do. I was glad i had some experience with making wearables and was happy I had conductive threat to use in the project. The website from Steph is amazing and you will get lots of ideas to make and follow her on the socials to get inspired.
